Acceleration Socks
Do you want a brand-new pair of socks with that pretty yarn you just brought home to be finished, like, yesterday? Did you promise someone in your life a pair of hand-knit socks but you don’t feel motivated enough to spend the next 2-4 weeks making them a pair… or maybe at this point you don’t have 2-4 weeks left before that gift-giving deadline? Then the Acceleration Socks are for you! By holding lightweight sock yarn double, in just a few days you can have a great pair of warm socks finished and ready to wear — or to throw in a gift bag on the way out the door!
These extra-thick unisex toe-up socks have a large, graphic knit and purl texture that stands out in any colourway. They feature a rounded short row heel using no-holes short rows and a 2x2 rib cuff. They are available in four standard foot circumferences and are adjustable in length and height.
This pattern requires the knitter to be able to knit a small circumference in the round (the pattern is method-neutral to suit your preferred technique for socks — double-pointed needles, magic loop/one circular needle, two circular needles, short circular needle, etc. — and the socks can easily be worked two-at-a-time) and clearly explains all techniques required. Within the pattern you will find links to useful video tutorials as well, so the pattern is easily accessible to an intermediate -- or even an advanced beginner -- sock knitter.
Holding the yarn double gives you an opportunity to showcase a colourway in a whole new way! It mixes up variegated yarns so that they don't pool in a predictable way, and it smooths out tonals to get a gorgeous depth of colour.
