Arctic Front Toque and Cowl
The Arctic Front Toque and Cowl are inspired by the most frigid and unforgiving winds of winter. The temperature might look only somewhat bone-chilling, but on some winter days the wind chill blasting between the buildings of downtown Ottawa is downright inhumane. That’s when you need your warmest knitted items!
This warm, comfortable hat and cowl set uses no-cable-needle cables and elongated stitches to create a unique and interesting fabric. Those elongated stitches also highlight the subtle colour details we all love in handpainted yarns!
Meant to be just slightly slouchy as a nod to the traditional conical Canadian toque, the toque is available in eight sizes and it features a crown knit in pattern as well as a simple 1x1-rib cuff. Add a snap pompom to the top for an added pop of colour!
Meant to be fitted around the neck to keep out the chill as much as possible, the cowl is worked top-down and features a simple 1x1-rib edging. It is easily adjustable in both height and circumference.
These patterns require the knitter to be able to knit in the round (both on double-pointed needles and circular needles) and clearly explain all techniques required. Within the patterns you will find links to useful video tutorials as well, so they are easily accessible to an intermediate knitter. Corresponding written instructions are provided for all charts.
The texture used in this pattern works with nearly any colourway, since it both pulls out subtle dye details and breaks up pooling.
